Foxx Report for the Week of April 13, 2018

On Wednesday, I joined President Trump at the White House for the signing of H.R. 1865, the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, known as FOSTA.  In the United States, 70% of the 105,000 children who are victims of sex trafficking were traded, bought, sold, and advertised online.  FOSTA enhances criminal penalties for websites that facilitate illegal prostitution or sex trafficking, and it provides sex trafficking victims with restitution.  I was proud to cosponsor this bill and glad to see it arrive at the President’s desk as this Congress continues the fight to end human trafficking.

Regulatory Reform

This week, the House continued its work on commonsense financial regulatory reform for our nation’s small banks, credit unions and businesses.  On Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 4790, the Stress Test Improvement Act and H.R. 4293, the Financial Stability Oversight Council Improvement Act.  And on Friday, the House passed H.R. 4790, the Volcker Rule Regulatory Harmonization Act.  These bipartisan bills bring much needed efficiency and increased transparency to federal oversight of financial institutions, allowing them to dedicate resources to consumer satisfaction and compliance with a streamlined regulatory framework.

North Carolinians in the Capitol

Every week I meet with many different constituents, industries, and non-profits who bring their concerns to my Washington D.C. office. Here is a snapshot of recent meetings I’ve held.

What’s Coming Up?

Next week, the House will consider legislation to modernize the Internal Revenue Service and protect taxpayer identify.  H.R. 5445, the 21st Century IRS Act, and H.R. 5444, the Taxpayer First Act, will work together to combat identify theft and improve the taxpayer experience.

Sincerely,
