Having another great and productive week during the House’s District Work Period!

Ryder Austin, young friend from Yadkin County

Recently joined supporters of the arts in Forsyth County at the Winston-Salem Arts Council reception at Hanesbrand Theatre!

Yesterday, I talked about healthcare, infrastructure, taxes and flood insurance with the North Carolina Realtors and Home Builders associations. We looked back at the benefits of tax reform for Main Street job creators and ahead to legislative objectives for this Congress. Two of my ongoing priorities include securing the Highway Trust Fund and preserving Association Health Plans that help small businesses access low cost and high-quality health insurance.

Toured the Harris Teeter Pharmacy in Winston-Salem.

Visited Tevepaugh and Parker Orchards in Brushy Mountain, Wilkes County.

Stopped by the Old Salem Visitors Center.

 Supporting IFB Solutions Employees

Yesterday, I sent a letter to Veterans Affairs Department Secretary Robert Wilkie to request his attention to the jobs of disabled individuals under threat by the expiration of three VA optical contracts held by Industries for the Blind Solutions through the AbilityOne Program in Winston-Salem. While positive steps were taken yesterday to extend one of the three contracts, it is my intent to continue working with the VA and other parties to find a swift, permanent and equitable solution to preserve current AbilityOne contracts and provide further contracting opportunities in the future.  Read the full text of the letter to Sec. Wilkie here.
