Foxx Report

For years, Americans across the country have struggled under a government takeover of health care. Because of Obamacare, insurance markets are collapsing, health care costs are soaring and patients’ choices are dwindling. Simply put, the flawed health care law is failing. It is hurting hardworking men and women across the country, and the American people deserve better.

That’s why Republicans promised to deliver the health care solutions Americans desperately need. This week, we are making good on that promise and moving forward with an effort that will provide a better way on health care.

After a thoughtful and collaborative process, members of the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Ways and Means Committee unveiled a legislative plan that will repeal and replace Obamacare. The plan, the American Health Care Act, includes a number of positive, commonsense reforms that will help create more choices, lower costs and give control back to individuals and families.

I encourage everyone to visit ReadTheBill.GOP. See for yourself the plan we have laid out, and help us move forward with these positive solutions. Together, we can help ensure all Americans have access to the high-quality, affordable health care coverage they deserve.

Advancing Reforms to Expand Affordable Health Care Coverage for Working Families

On Wednesday the House Committee on Education and the Workforce approved a number of legislative proposals to expand affordable health care for working families and promote a healthy workforce. The bills are part of a broader effort to replace Obamacare with free-market, patient-centered reforms.

H.R. 1101, the Small Business Health Fairness Act, empowers small businesses to band together through association health plans to negotiate for lower health insurance costs on behalf of their employees. H.R. 1304, the Self-Insurance Protection Act, reaffirms long-standing policies to ensure employers can continue to offer workers flexible, more affordable health care plans through self-insurance. H.R. 1313, the Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act, provide employers the legal certainty they need to offer employee wellness plans, helping to promote a healthy workforce and lower health care costs.

These proposals — along with those in the American Health Care Act — are exactly the kind of free-market, patient-centered reforms Republicans promised. All of these proposals reflect the principle that individuals should have greater control over their health care and the freedom to do what’s best for their families.

Providing for the Common Defense of the United States of America

Providing for the common defense of the United States of America is the federal government’s primary duty and we must be vigilant, determined and united in full support of our military personnel. This week the House passed legislation that would fund a number of important resources for America’s military personnel and their families. H.R. 1301, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2017, provides $516.1 billion for the nation’s military and defense initiatives as well as $61.8 billion for overseas contingency operations. It provides a 2.1 percent pay raise for service members.

What’s Coming Up

Next week the House will take up legislation to ensure greater accountability of the employees at the VA as well as legislation to improve the hiring and retainment process for physicians and other specialists at the VA.

Sincerely,
