Foxx Report

During Hurricane Florence and its aftermath, I have been impressed by the selflessness of our first responders and the generosity of many businesses, police and fire departments and individuals in the Fifth District who are supporting disaster relief. North Carolinians must remain alert to the dangers—especially road conditions. Although the damage is not yet done, recovery is already underway. Maintaining support for those impacted by the storm is crucial during this time, and there are many ways to do so including volunteering for relief efforts. Everyone who is suffering the loss of loved ones and facing the unimaginable challenges of rebuilding their neighborhoods has my deepest condolences and prayers.

CONSTITUTION DAY

This Monday was Constitution Day, and I took the opportunity of the approaching national holiday to remark on the significance of our country’s brilliant founding document—and how the current state of our federal government reflects a less brilliant inversion of its true wisdom. Watch my remarks below.

WEBSITE REVAMP

You might have noticed a new look to the newsletter, which goes along with my new and improved website! In addition to providing the latest news about my work in Congress, my website is dedicated to helping the Fifth District navigate the federal government, apply for federal grants, apply to a service academy and visit our nation’s capital. If you haven’t visited foxx.house.gov today, check out the newest updates and user-friendly format for all devices.

WHAT'S COMING UP?

Next week, the House will vote on legislation to ensure that our nation’s small businesses, start-ups and middle-class families keep more of what they earn by debating a package of bills known as “Tax Reform 2.0.” Furthermore, the House will consider my bill, the Grant Reporting Efficiency and Agreements Transparency Act, or GREAT Act (H.R. 4887). This bipartisan legislation will modernize the federal grant reporting process by using the latest technology to automate it. Transforming grant reporting into digital, searchable data will maximize taxpayer dollars by lowering the compliance burden, thereby ensuring grants go back into communities. It will also provide instant insights for grantor agencies and Congress, and enable easy access to data for oversight, analytics and program evaluation.

Sincerely,
