Foxx Report

Remember earlier this year when the Biden Administration claimed it would pull America from the depths of an economic crisis by “building back better than ever before”? I sure do, and I also remember the administration’s claim of creating “millions of additional good-paying jobs” as well. Here we are heading into mid-October and those two objectives have fallen flat on their faces. But how badly?

If you’ve scanned the latest September jobs report, you would find that 194,000 jobs were created last month, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.8 percent, and that professional business services along with retail, leisure, and hospitality led job creation. Now, on the surface those numbers seem to suggest that we’re paving the road to recovery, but in fact we’re steering even further off course. Wait until you see some of the underlying figures that are not as widely reported in the media:

  • The 194,000 jobs that were added fell far below the widely estimated job creation number of 500,000.
  • The Labor Force Participation Rates cascaded downward to 61.6% in September – one of the lowest percentages since 1976.
  • Women lost an estimated 26,000 jobs in September.
  • The healthcare sector lost 18,000 jobs in September.
  • Local government education lost 144,000 jobs in September.

See what I mean? The September jobs report is the worst of 2021, and it adds another unsavory chapter to the already abysmal record of President Biden. Keep in mind that this report comes at a time when inflation has reached a 30-year high and has grown every month since President Biden assumed office. Mark Zandi, the Chief Economist at Moody’s Analytics, revealed that for households earning a median income of $70,000, the current inflation rate would require them to spend another $175 per month on food, fuel, and housing.

There are still roughly three months to go in 2021, and there’s still time to right the ship. Based on the current economic trajectory, including additional spending, debt and increased taxes among other things, it’s clear that something needs to change, and it starts within the administration.

The Debt Ceiling

On Tuesday, the Democrats in the House voted to raise the debt ceiling by $480 billion until early December when this issue will have to be addressed yet again due to the funding running out. You’ll be happy to know that I voted against raising the debt ceiling. Democrat-led spending is a growing burden that will rest upon the shoulders of future generations of Americans – and I cannot vote to give away the American people’s last remaining line of defense against this unprecedented exhaustion of taxpayer money.  Congressional Democrats need to abandon their tax and spend agenda and stop injecting trillions upon trillions of dollars into the economy at a time of unparalleled inflation.

What concerns me most during this debate is how the narrative of the United States allegedly defaulting on its debt has misled so many people. Mark Levin, the host of Life, Liberty, and Levin came out with a recent episode in the first week of October that touched upon the narrative surrounding the debt ceiling and why scare tactics have been used for weeks when describing it.

Defending Parents

Last week, every Republican on the House Education and Labor Committee joined me in sending a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding a Committee briefing regarding the administration’s recent threats against parents concerned about their children’s education. Parent engagement is a critical part of a child’s education. Even when the subjects may be tough, it is important for school officials, elected officials, and teachers to understand and address parents’ concerns. Labeling these parents as “domestic terrorists” and targeting them as such is an affront to the very freedoms that we proudly espouse as Americans.
